Overview

We pick you up at Anchorage hotels or Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and begin our journey along the Seward Highway—an official National Scenic Byway known for glaciers, mountains, and wildlife. This fully narrated experience blends a comfortable transfer to Whittier with classic Alaska sightseeing, a wildlife visit, and scenic photo stops, ending with a convenient drop-off at the Whittier cruise ship terminal.

Anchorage to Turnagain Arm (Photo Stop)

South of Anchorage we skim the edge of Potter Marsh, part of the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge. The highway then hugs the tidal waters of Turnagain Arm, where steep mountains plunge to the sea. We pause at a designated turnout—often Beluga Point—for photos and, conditions permitting, a chance to spot Dall sheep on the cliffs or beluga whales in the inlet.

Portage & Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC)

Continuing south, we pass the remains of Portage, a community shaped by the 1964 earthquake, and arrive at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. You will have ~1 hour to explore the Center. This sanctuary cares for Alaska’s iconic animals; you can view bison, elk, moose, caribou, musk oxen, eagles, and bears in spacious habitats while learning about conservation efforts. It’s a favorite stop for close-up photographs in a safe, respectful setting.

Portage Valley Scenic Overlook

Then we stop in Portage Valley for an amazing overlook of the lake and numerous hanging glaciers crowning the surrounding mountains— a perfect place for great photos (time and weather permitting).

Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel

From Portage Valley we continue to the 2.5-mile, one-lane Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel—the longest highway tunnel in North America. After a short wait for the scheduled opening, we pass through the tunnel and emerge on the shores of Prince William Sound.

Arrival in Whittier

We finish with a direct drop-off at the Whittier cruise ship terminal for an easy embarkation. Settle in and enjoy the glacier-carved mountains and sea views that surround this unique port town.
